The short version: TruBrief collects only what it needs to work. We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time.
1. Who We Are
TruBrief is a news aggregator application developed and operated by Tru-Resolve LLC ("we," "us," or "our"), registered in the United States. If you have questions about this policy, contact us at privacy@tru-resolve.com.
2. What Information We Collect
We collect only the minimum information required to provide the TruBrief service:
- Account information: If you create an account, we collect your email address and a hashed password. You may also sign in via Google or Facebook, in which case we receive only your email address and display name from that provider. We do not receive or store any other data from those providers (no contacts, no friends lists, no profile data beyond name and email).
- Location (optional): If you use the Local Brief or weather features, you may provide a ZIP code or city name, which we store in your preferences. If you grant location permission, the app temporarily accesses your device's GPS coordinates solely to resolve your nearest city and county — these raw coordinates are never transmitted to our servers or stored. Only the resolved city, county, and state names are saved. You can remove your location data at any time in Settings.
- Preferences: Your selected news categories, subscribed sources, saved articles, language preference, region, notification settings, and app version are stored on our servers so your experience syncs across devices and to assist with support.
- Usage data: We collect basic, anonymized app usage signals (e.g., which news sources you open, fact-check link clicks) to improve the service. Source-level click data is aggregated and not linked to your personal identity in any reports shared outside our systems.
- Device info and crash data: App version number, operating system version, device model, and crash stack traces are collected by Firebase Crashlytics to help us identify and fix bugs. This data is linked to an anonymous installation identifier, not your email or account. Crash data is never used for advertising.
- Device identifier hash (Android): On Android, TruBrief generates a one-way SHA-256 hash of your device's anonymous hardware identifier. This hash is used solely to prevent abuse of the free trial on our sideloaded APK distribution channel. The raw identifier is never transmitted; only the irreversible hash is stored. This does not identify you personally and cannot be reversed to obtain your device ID.
- Push notification token: A device token provided by Firebase Cloud Messaging, used solely to deliver your Daily Brief notification. This token is not used for advertising.
- In-app review prompt: TruBrief uses the Google Play In-App Review API to invite you to rate the app. This API operates entirely within Google Play's infrastructure — we do not receive or store your rating or review text. Google's privacy policy governs their handling of review data.
We do not collect: persistent GPS coordinates, contacts, camera or microphone data, payment card details (payments, when available, will be handled by our payment processor), or any data from other apps on your device.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and personalize the TruBrief service (feeds, digests, weather, markets)
- To sync your preferences and saved articles across your devices
- To send your Daily Brief notification at the time you configure
- To respond to support requests you send us
- To improve app performance and fix bugs (using anonymized usage data)
- To send occasional product update emails (you can unsubscribe at any time)
We do not use your data to serve you targeted advertisements. TruBrief does not have an ad network and does not share data with ad platforms.
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only with the following service providers, each of which is bound by a data processing agreement:
- Supabase — our database and authentication provider, hosted in the United States. Your account data, preferences, and saved articles are stored here under strict row-level security controls.
- Google (Firebase) — provides push notification delivery (Firebase Cloud Messaging) and authentication services. Google's privacy policy governs their handling of data.
- Meta (Facebook) — provides optional Facebook sign-in. If you use Facebook login, Meta receives a confirmation of the authentication event. We receive only your email and name.
- AI providers (Groq, Google Gemini) — article text from public news sources is sent to AI APIs to generate summaries. This is third-party published content, not your personal data. Neither provider is permitted to use this content to train their models under our agreements.
- Tomorrow.io — your city or ZIP code is sent to retrieve your local weather forecast. No account information is shared.
- Google Play (RevenueCat) — in-app subscriptions (TruBrief Pro monthly and annual plans, including the 7-day free trial) are handled through Google Play Billing, managed via RevenueCat. All payment processing is handled entirely by Google. We never see or store your card number. RevenueCat receives your anonymized app user ID (your Supabase account UUID) and a subscription status signal (active/expired/trial) to unlock Pro features in the app — no payment card data is ever shared with us. RevenueCat is a SOC 2 Type II certified platform. You can review RevenueCat's privacy policy at revenuecat.com/privacy.
- Law enforcement — only if required by a valid legal process (subpoena, court order). We will notify you to the extent permitted by law.
5. Cookies and Tracking
The TruBrief mobile app does not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking SDKs. The TruBrief website (this page) uses only essential first-party cookies for navigation. We do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any behavioral advertising tools on this website.
6. Content Blocker
TruBrief's in-app browser includes a content blocker that prevents known ad networks, tracking scripts, and autoplay media from loading when you open full articles. This blocking happens entirely on your device — no data about blocked requests is sent to our servers.
7. Children's Privacy
TruBrief is not directed at children under 13 years of age (or under 16 in the EU/UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@tru-resolve.com and we will delete it promptly.
8. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. News articles are automatically deleted from our servers after 30 days unless you have saved them to your account. If you delete your account, all associated personal data is permanently removed within 30 days of the deletion request.
9. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: Request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Correction: Ask us to correct inaccurate data
- Deletion: Request deletion of your account and all associated data
- Portability: Request your data in a machine-readable format
- Opt-out: Unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time

10. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information. To submit a CCPA request, email privacy@tru-resolve.com with the subject line "CCPA Request."
11. International Users
TruBrief is operated from the United States. If you are located outside the US (including the European Economic Area), your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. By using TruBrief, you consent to this transfer. We take appropriate measures to ensure your data is protected in accordance with this policy.
12. Security
We use industry-standard security practices: all data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2+), passwords are hashed and salted and never stored in plain text, and our database enforces row-level security so each user can only access their own data. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we take reasonable and appropriate precautions to protect your information.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in-app or by email at least 14 days before the change takes effect. The "Effective date" at the top of this page will always reflect the current version.
